Let’s get right into it! Today’s objective is altering pattern paper. There are so many ways to change the texture and overall condition of paper. You can paint it, emboss it, score it, tear it, sew it…and the list goes on. I wanted to try an exact technique an instructor used and try scoring my paper and then sanding down the score lines to create raised white lines.
Each white line on the card was created by sanding the paper. Pretty neat huh?

Day 3 and card 4 is here! And today’s lesson could be my favorite take away. Today’s lesson was how to use “hard to use” and bold patterns. I wanted to take a busy pattern and break it up a bit to create a card that looked a little easier on the eye. I think an even larger print would look amazing!

We’re on to day 2 and card 3 of Pattern Play. Today’s project concept is to use a stamping technique on patterned paper. I found it really interesting that one of the instructors stamped her image and then clear embossed it so the stamp would resist all inking done to the paper. I played on that concept a bit and came up with my take on the lesson.
Here it is:
As you can see, right below the word banner I clear embossed a stamped image and then inked the paper orange and blue. The stamped image resisted the ink and just pops out. The paper now looks more antiqued and aged. The original paper was a simple diamond pattern on cream colored paper.

Hi all,
I have joined another card class over at onlinecardclass.com hosted by the awesome Kristina Werner and Jennifer McGuire. I particularly loved this class simply because I was lacking creativity when it came to using up pattern paper. I typically reach for a stamp to avoid mixing and matching so this was an awesome reason to put away the stamps and look at other forms of media to play with.
For Day 1 we were given some basic tips in what to look for when creating projects with pattern paper. The main concept I took away was always have 1 large print, 1 medium/small print, and 1 solid/monotone print. We were then given some awesome tips and tricks to layout and were asked to create our rendition of the instructors card.
Here are my 2 takes on the card. I originally created one card (card 1) but didn’t think it was too great. I then created the second card (card 2) and loved the way it turned out. I then showed my husband to see which one he liked – he said card 1 more! It just goes to show everyone has their own taste and what one might dislike, another person will love.
